About the program
In accordance to National Education Policy(NEP) 2020, Skilled Young India(SYI) Program is introduced with the aim to provide various skill based courses to k-12 students such as coding, robotics, entrepreneurship, etc . These courses shall be taught in schools just lke any other subject like maths and science. Schools need not hire any professionals in order to run these courses, the full fledged training will be provided to the existing teachers in the respective schools. Students will only be required to buy the study material required for the course such as text books as they do for maths, science or any other subject.
The curriculum for these courses is designed by the professors of IIT Bombay and IIM Bangalore. The various educational resources used in this program are designed at MIT and Harvard.
For the academic year 2021-2022, 100 schools across India will be selected to run this Program.
How it works
Teacher training
For every course, training will be conducted for the assigned school teachers before the program begins. No prior knowledge of the subject is required.
Study material
Specially curated study material for the course such as books/worksheets/cards/kits will be distributed to the students to help them in learning.
Classes begin
The trained school teacher will conduct classes for the program based on the set curriculum. All the resources including lesson plans/ppt/videos will be provided by us.
Why coding should be made compulsory in schools?
Six research studies conducted worldwide show: children who learn to code at early age perform better in other subjects, excel at problem-solving, and are 17% more likely to attend college.
Some may think that coding is all about learning to write instructions in a computer understandable language, but it is more about logic, problem solving, and creativity.
Studies also show that 70% parents in urban India want their child to learn to code, it can be said that parents might now look for schools that teach coding as a subject.
